The cast of Dansgroep Krisztina de Châtel was made up of four to eight dancers. In addition trainees and dancers who work on one production were frequently engaged. In th fall of 2008 the tableau counts fifteen dancers. Dansgroep Krisztina de Châtel was a culturally diverse company with an international cast from Italy, Germany, Portugal, Belgium and Switzerland.
The dancers all completed (part of) their training in The Netherlands. Besides physical and technical qualities, Krisztina de Châtel also attaches great importance to personality and the social engagement of dancers.
Describing her ideal dancer, de Châtel says: 'Of course the technical side is important: their physical capabilities. They must be strong, with a classical and a modern training. But if I see that someone is very intelligent, a real personality, then I will take him or her anyway, even if the technical side is not quite up to scratch yet.
If I see motivation, obsessiveness and openness, then I will take a person on. And I have to see suppleness, but not feebleness. Power, energy and discipline is what I look out for. And a willingness to be corrected. Even then, it remains to be seen whether you have made the right choice.' (from Krisztina de Châtel, Dwars door de Ruimte, 2001) |
