Imperium
Premiering in Carré in 1990, Imperium promises to be just as startling and fascinating 2008. Love, jealousy and power form the main ingredients of the struggle between court jesters and kings, between modern development and old regimes. Opera music by Henry Purcell and regal costumes by Rien Bekkers perfectly complement the baroque gestures, the exuberant solos, minimalist movements and spatial patterns which make up Imperium.
“Sublime de Châtel conquers Carré. Choreographer elevates simple step to regal stride.” (Trouw)
Première: 4 February 2008, Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam Theatre tour: 2 February – 31 March 2008 Reservations at the various theatres, see play list at www.dechatel.nl

The Circus Tent
Dansgroep Krisztina de Châtel pitches its tents at the Sloterplas in Amsterdam for a new on-location performance. In the Circus Tent, de Châtel’s dancers meet with a brass band, majorettes and Turkish Sufi dancers and musicians. The rigid, rectilinear structure of majorette band also forms a source of inspiration in de Châtel’s new work. The performance revolves around composer David Dramm’s new work which connects Sufi and brass band music. It promises to be a kaleidoscopic performance for young and old, for lovers of rigid lines and effervescent dance movements.
